Last week’s survey was all about what you were most excited to play in 2016, and your votes were clear…well, kind of. The results were all over the board, except for one game which garnered a significant amount more than any other. The game; The Legend of Zelda Wii U. That’s not terribly surprising to me, and it probably isn’t to many of you. First off, whenever a new Zelda game is released it’s a huge deal. In fact, I’d put a Zelda release right up there with Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, and any number of other big time, non-annualized franchises. The other factor to consider here is that 2016’s line up is just not incredibly star-studded. That’s certainly not to say that it will be a bad year in gaming, it’s just that the overall line up doesn’t have the same zing as 2013, or 2015. I mean, we got a new Witcher, a new Metal Gear Solid, a new Halo, Star Wars: Battlefront, a new Fallout game, Super Mario Maker; I mean the list just goes on from there.
That said, next year is still shaping up to be pretty decent, especially when you factor in that a lot of the games that look interesting in 2016 are indie games. Could it finally be the year that indies move out of the weird artsy project space and into the big time? Well, if your votes count for anything. The number two most anticipated game of 2016 is No Man’s Sky, with Cuphead and Mighty No. 9 getting several votes as well.
Among the others that you’re excited about; The Last Guardian, XCOM 2, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Doom, Persona 5, Ratchet & Clank, The Last Gaurdian, and two write ins; Project X Zone 2, and Pokken Tournament. For what it’s worth, here are my five choices (in no particular order): Dishonored 2, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Hyper Light Drifter, The Legend of Zelda Wii U, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
