There is nothing technically “new” coming out this week. I guess Santa’s elves have made all the new games they’re going to make this year. Instead, we get a few ports and special editions of existing games.
The newest of the not new games is Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, which comes to the Wii U two months after its 3DS debut. One of developer WayForward’s few completely original properties, this third installment of the action/platformer series is essentially more of the same, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing as the Shantae games have always been solid titles. Of course, the retro-style platform genre has gotten a lot more crowded the last few years and I know a lot of people are getting a bit burnt out on them, but if you just can’t get enough of those kinds of games then Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse should be on your radar.
Resogun has been one of the PS4’s marquee exclusive digital titles, and those who haven’t made the jump to Sony’s latest platform but have a PS3 and/or Vita can finally check out the fast-paced shoot-em-up as its now coming to those platforms as well.
Although Trine 2: Complete Story has been out on PS4 for over a year now, the developers felt it was time to bring the enhanced PC port of its predecessor, Trine: Enchanted Edition, to the platform. The biggest additions to this version are enhanced graphics and online multiplayer. If you happened to miss out on Trine 1 this is definitely the version to get, and it’s worth revisiting even if you skipped straight to part 2.
