Mortal Monday: Jack Bauer Edition

A couple of weeks ago an interesting news story broke; apparently during an interview regarding the two new Metal Gear Solid games, 24’s Kiefer Sutherland revealed his involvement in a new Mortal Kombat game.  Immediately upon hearing this, my mind started racing as to who Sutherland would be voicing.   There aren’t a a ton of choices for Sutherland to play though.  He’s a big name actor, so he’ll almost certainly be a central character.  He’ll almost certainly not be a villain.  This leaves but a few options for good ole Jack Bauer.

Stryker

It’s possible that Sutherland could voice Stryker.  The voice of Jack Bauer lending itself to another badass law enforcement character makes a lot of sense.  The trouble is, Stryker isn’t very well known outside of the Mortal Kombat universe.  So again, while it’s possible that Sutherland could voice Stryker, it’s hard to imagine bringing in such a big name actor to voice a character that simply won’t have the recognition of some of the other MK greats.  That said, there is one other possibility; if Kiefer Sutherland voices Stryker, is that to say that maybe there are other big name actors voicing other characters?  Maybe Kiefer Sutherland isn’t voicing Sub-Zero because Aziz Ansari is.  Also, Joan Rivers as Sheeva.  Nailed it.

 Batman

The rumor has been swirling around the internet for a while now that the next MK game would be MK vs. DC 2, and that the story would carry forward both the story from MK9 and the story from Injustice by combining the narrative of each.  If that turns out to be true, then Kiefer Sutherland is a great candidate to voice the caped crusader.  And let’s face it, if you want to use your big name talent to voice big name characters, that’s a pretty perfect match.

Raiden

The most likely option for Sutherland is Raiden.  A titular character in the franchise, it makes sense to use a big-name talent to voice him.  If the story is a pure progression from MK9, the Raiden should be front and center during much of the narrative, as he was last time.  Plus, as I stated earlier, the tone of Sutherland’s voice lends itself well to certain characters, Raiden being chief among them.
