Where to Get Your PS4.

On Friday at 12:01am the era will be upon us.  Though the PS4’s launch day line-up seems a bit meager, there is no doubt that it’s exciting to get a piece of that shiny new hardware.  Back when the PS2 was launching, Chris and I camped out all night just to get one in the early morning on its launch day.  It was cold, and we were exhausted by the end, but it was one of the most fun nights I’ve ever had.  Most places offer midnight launches now, making the overnight experience feel a bit dated, but it’s still a hell of a lot of fun to mingle with other fans as we all wait to get our hands on that sweet, sweet console.  On that note, here is a list of where you can partake in the midnight festivities:

Best Buy:  It appears that most Best Buy locations around the Chicagoland area will be doing midnight launch events.  To be sure though, here is a link to their page.  On the right is a drop down, and when you enter Illinois you’ll see a complete list of stores participating in the midnight event.

GameStop:  All GameStop locations will be participating in the PS4 midnight launch event, so any GameStop should be a safe bet.

Walmart:  Walmart stores will be participating in the midnight launch, so this should also be a safe bet.

Sony Store:  Apparently Sony has it’s own official store; who knew?  They’ll also be doing a midnight launch, unfortunately there are only two in the general area of Chicago, and I use the term “general” liberally.  One is in Aurora, and the other is in Kenosha, WI.

Meijer:  If you’re feeling extra kitschy (or maybe you just live in the area) B96 will be broadcasting live from the Meijer in Bloomingdale, from 10:30pm – 12:30am for the PS4 launch.  Here is a bit more info on that.

This information is all useless unless you’re able to get a pre-order, of course.  So, if you’re intrigued enough to hop on the PS4 launch bandwagon, I’d suggest you start calling your local retailers and getting that pre-order as soon as possible.  Alternatively, you can just wing it and hope that some store in your area has that one lonely PS4 still sitting on it’s shelves come Friday morning.
